It depends on how serious you are and how much money you are willing to invest. If, for whatever reason, you are unwilling to go through google yourself consider using a marketing agency who will deal with whatever SEO / bid management needs you have. Failing that; Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing and Microsoft adCenter are the biggest SEM vendors - if you want to be "on the first page of searching" you need to go through them. As already mentioned, if you are serious about this you will need to understand SEO and think very hard about your product and how it fits into the market / how much you are willing to invest in it.

You haven't said if you are willing to pay for the privilege of being at number one but the fastest way there is to pay... heavily, unless your product is in such a niche market that you have no competition. Ensure that your page is optimised for your product, that it reads naturally and is not overburdened with useless waffle. Pay high ranking sites with content related to your product to show one-way text links or pictures with alt links that mention your product by name. As much as you seem to dislike Google it will be necessary to use their services sooner or later as an Adwords campaign that uses your product name as a search result will also push your sites rating higher. Write and submit articles that mention your product as a solution to a problem to major article sites and also to press release sites (may cost). If your article is well written and the solution provides a real human need then you may get picked up by major news networks which will also boost your ratings. Forget black hat techniques that work this week as they will probably fail next week. If your product is good you will get 'organic' traffic that will popularise your site naturally. Inbound links are the best way to get started. Good luck.
