Small Businesses - Why would you NOT accept credit cards?
I've seen several small businesses say that they don't accept credit cards. Why would you not accept them? I understand that there is a processing fee and some setup involved, but aren't you cutting out a lot of potential customers and making things inconvenient for potential customers? I would think that you are a losing a percetage of potential business.

You answered your own question: Some businesses don't want to bother with the processing fees. Personally, I've always accepted them. I'm sure that you would lose business without them. PARTICULARLY these days where people are getting more and more into debit cards.

It's a hassle...it costs more than you would imagine...and yes, you are cutting out some customers, but that's the breaks.

I am a hair stylist, self employed. I don't take credit cards because my income isn't profitable enough to pay the fees. It's usually 2-4 percent of the sale plus a service charge, plus a monthly fee. That adds up when everyone pays with a card. Support your small businesses and then they will be making enough to have a credit card service set up!

It is a proven fact that most people spend 30 percent more when they use debit or credit cards. Most merchants are afraid of fees related to merchant services, but this would be easily offset by the more volume of customers and transactions, and hey they might even make money in the process!

I have a small videography business and I dont accept credit cards and this is why. a)I am not dealing with a huge profit margin and I dont want to pay the fee. b)I might turn a few people away here and there, but I am booked with check paying customers as much as I can work most of the time, so it isnt really a loss. c)I hate credit cards. Many people get over thier heads in credit card debt and I dont want to be the cause of someone maxing out thier cards, and paying double for my service because of interest and fees.
