Question

Secured Credit Card Recomentation?

I'm in the process of repairing my credit history. Though I'd prefer to just not have a credit card, it was recomended I get a secured credit card and use it minimally (small $100 or less purchase a month or less) to help with this process. In addition, it would be handy to be able to do things like rent a car from time to time, which you usually need a credit card for. There seem to be dozens of companies eager to take my money, of course. does anyone have a recomentation for a secured credit card? I need a limit of around $500 (for potential car rental) and have no problem putting down the deposit. I'd rather not pay lots of hidden fees though and really wouldn't be using it very often as I've learned to enjoy and appreciate the credit card free lifestyle. Any suggestions? I've seen all the websites, but perhaps someone has some more specific advice than just a web address. Oh, and as long as I have the deposit/sign up money, is approval usually no problem?

Bank of America and Wells Fargo offer 2 of the best secured cards that I've seen out there. The annual fees are the lowest ($18 for Wells Fargo, and $29 for Bank of America). The interest rate's shouldn't be an issue, especially if you're going to pay the balance off in full every month. Capital One and Orchard Bank(HSBC) offer them as well, you might want to check them out too.

Secured credit cards are a great way to rebuild your credit. Most secured credit card companies require a deposit equal to the credit line your are seeking. Make sure they report your payment monthly to the major credit bureaus. Making your payments on time monthly will increase your credit rating. Below is a list of popular secured credit card companies. Centennial® Master Card / Visa - You may qualify for a secured or unsecured card - Choose from a Master Card or Visa - Reports monthly to all major credit bureaus - 24-hour account access by phone First PREMIER Bank Master Card / Visa - You may qualify for a secured or unsecured card - A credit card for those with less than perfect credit - Low APR on purchases - Monthly reporting to all major credit bureaus New Millennium Bank Platinum Visa and Master Card - Bankruptcy OK - You're approved for a secured card with a credit limit of $10,000 - No credit check - Reports to 3 major credit bureaus
