I'm from Russia and I know a bit about Russian credit payment rules. I think you friend shouldn't be scared to contact the bank and explain the situation (they probably will require it in the written form). The only thing she should be scared of is very very huge payments and fees for late payments. But of course, she should contact them is she is going to pay the debt at all. If not, she'd better hide well, as the bank has a right to charge the debt to be paid off via court.

Is this person asking you to help pay off their debts? Is it someone you know through internet contact? If the answer to these questions is yes, then be suspicious. Procedures for default best discovered by asking on Russian version of yahoo, if there is a Russian version.
