Is it possible for video rental late fees to damage your credit?
Blockbuster allowed someone who was not authorized to rent on my account to rent movies(do not know who) and they returned one late. I am not missing any cards that I know of and I know that they are supposed to ask for ID when you don't have your card, so how they rented on my account without a card(or ID)is beyond me. I now have a late fee---for a movie I did not even rent. I tried to talk to the manager of the store and she said that she couldn't do anything(I know that's not true) and that she would have to talk to the owner of the store and call me back. Still waiting for a call!! In fact, when I talked to her, she said that the movie had "automatically" showed up in the drop box that very night. I honestly did not rent these movies(one was returned on time) and if they had looked at my account, they would have seen that I have paid late fees before when they have been movies I have rented and they have been late. Will this late fee come back to haunt me as far as credit goes?

Unfortunately they can put it on your credit but if they do that then file a dispute with the credit bureau. Also,tell the manager you want to contact the owner personally and see if you can't get this matter resolved.

Movie rentals are not on your credit report.

No! It will not hurt you and it can't really even be reported to the credit Bureau(s).

So will overdue library books. Every late fee of every type, and every time that you pay something late, it has an adverse effect on your credit rating.

Absolutely yes, I had this happen to me a few years ago. I was buying a new home and learned that a video store in California who had gone out of business had reported me. Be careful with these people, they really don 't care who they report.
