Question

I need to analyse restaurants in Massachusetts - how can I gather information?

I need to do a research on how to set up your own restaurant business in the USA - massachusetts - somwhere inbetween Pittsfield and Great Barrington. Thereore I need to gather all kinds of information about the price of properties, the surrounding competitors (analyse the food and room offer), write a business plan, doing the financial check-up and everything I forgot to mention.... I am writing this as a part of my degree as a bachelor in hotel management here in Heidelberg, Germany. So if you would have any contacts or any ideas for me to get information PLEASE let me know. I would be really thankful, because it is not easy to do studies, researches, analyses and so thousands of miles away from the place. Thank you very much Alex B. D.

Getting most of information you need is easy. The hardest information to get is financial information since it is proprietary and most companies will refuse to tell you how much they sell and how much they make. but there is a way to work out an average. For instance total sales in your city for restaurants is 1 million dollars and your city has 3 restaurants so you assume that each restaurnt made $333,333 in sales per year but wait one restaurant is bigger than the other 2 one restaurant is 1000 sq feet the other two are only 500 sq feet so that means the big restaurant made $500,000 in one year and the 2 smaller ones made $166,000 and change you can work out sales roughly by working out the square footage of the restaurants since they will never tell you what they truly make. take the total sales for your city for resaturant revenue find out how many restaurants operate in your city figure out the square footage of each restaurant and that should give you a rough estimate of each resaaturants total sales. you can also be unethical and pose or have someone pose as a student for a business project and schedule meetings with managers and owners and interview them and ask how much they make.
