Access privileges

Access privileges are a Merchant Solutions feature that makes it easier to have more than one employee work on your store without writing over each other's changes, or exposing sensitive information or controls. With access privileges you can specify the Store Control Panel features each employee is able to access, so you can control which parts of your store are worked on by each employee.

Automated UPS shipment processing

Available directly from your Store Control Panel, UPS OnLine® Tools enables merchants to ship and track packages, gather rate and service information, and validate addresses for UPS shipping services. By integrating these options into your store, you eliminate the need to manually enter or cut and paste data between Yahoo! Merchant Solutions and UPS shipping applications; making the shipping experience seamless for you. The UPS tracking number is made available to purchasers so they can monitor the progress of their order. This all means reduced costs and improved customer service for your store.

Backups and restores

A snapshot is a record of your web site at a particular point in time. Hourly, daily, and weekly snapshots are taken of your web site. You have the option of restoring files from any of these snapshots. Snapshots are kept for 30 days before being recycled

Catalog Manager

The Catalog Manager is a powerful built-in tool that allows you to manage your inventory of products, including pricing and detail information about each item. You can enter your products one by one or upload them from a .csv file to save time. With Catalog Manager you can organize items into Categories, add up to 50 product attribute fields for each item, and review your inventory levels by these options, so you know, for example, how many XL green shirts you have in stock.

Click trails

This report shows the paths customers take through your web site. This data can be used to show paths that tend to lead to purchases and you can use this information to determine how you should try to direct people through your site. Available in Merchant Standard and Merchant Professsional.

Commission Junction (affiliate programs)

Commission Junction offers a comprehensive suite of affiliate marketing services including marketing partnerships and advanced tools to facilitate revenue sharing between partners.

You can participate in Commission Junction as an Advertiser or as a Publisher. Advertisers appear on other Commission Junction participants' sites and pay a commission when they generate sales via these placements. Publishers request to join an Advertiser's program and, upon acceptance, select and place the Advertiser's creative on their own Web site or in their own email campaigns. Then the publisher receives payouts when they refer visitors from their site to the Advertiser's site and the visitors make a purchase online, fill out a form, or take another action as specified in your relationship. Commission Junction serves and tracks the ad placements and handles the fee collection and processing, ensuring fair and timely commission payment for the Publishers. Meanwhile Advertisers receive complete reporting so they can easily track the return on investment (ROI) of their pay-for-performance advertising efforts. You can win on either side of the equation!

Coupon manager

The Coupon Manager feature allows you to create coupons redeemable at your store for a specific dollar amount, percentage off, or free shipping. You can use these coupons in your advertising, email campaigns, or on-site promotions. All your customers have to do to redeem a coupon is to enter the coupon code during the checkout process. The dollar amount or discount you specified will automatically be calculated and displayed on the following page. Coupon Manager also lets you track the performance of specific coupons, so you can see how many times they've been used, check how much revenue they've generated, and review graphs of their performance over time.

Cross-sell engine

The automated cross-selling engine can help boost your customers' spending per visit by dynamically suggesting related products to purchase when customers place items into their shopping carts. For example, if a person places a digital camera in his shopping cart, the cross-selling engine can automatically recommend a memory card, batteries or a photo editing software application. You can determine which products are recommended, set start and end dates for special cross-sell offers or seasonal promotions, and even provide special pricing for cross-sell items to encourage your users to buy right away. Available in Merchant Standard and Merchant Professional.

.csv File

.csv is a format that allows you to save database or spreadsheet information as a text file in which each field of data is separated by a comma (for example, "Backpack, Blue, 04678, $49.95").

With the Merchant Solutions Catalog Manager you can upload your entire product inventory as a .csv file to quickly update your online store and avoid entering each product individually. You can also download your inventory as a .csv file.

Card Verification Value is the 3-4 digit number found on the signature panel on the back of a credit card.

Domain name

A domain name -- also called a web address -- is a unique address on the Internet for your business web site, like www.widget-designs.com. Customers will type your domain name into their web browsers to find you online.

A domain name is composed of two parts: a name that reflects your business, such as "widget-designs," and an extension, like ".com", ".biz", ".net" or ".info". Several different extensions are available to help indicate the type of business or service you are providing online or your geographical location. Please note that different extensions have different domain names available in inventory. If the ".com" version of a name is taken, you may still be able to register it as a .biz or .info name instead.

Once you've registered your domain, you can build a public web site at the address and create customized email addresses that include it (e.g., b_smith@widget-designs.com).

Domain locking
Domain locking is a security feature that prevents your domain name from being transferred to another domain registrar and ensures that no one can modify your name servers without your permission. When you sign up for a domain name, your domain is automatically locked.

Email Addresses
An online address you can use to send and receive email, such as pat_smith@widgetdesigns.com. Merchant Solutions plans include 1,000 email addresses, advanced virus and spam protection, and the ability to access email using applications like Microsoft Outlook.

Allows you to forward email received at your Yahoo! Business Mail account to any other email account that you specify. This allows you to receive your email from multiple accounts in the same inbox.

Email message attachment limits

Email attachments are any files, like word processing documents, pictures, or spreadsheets, that you send and receive along with your email. An email attachment limit applies to the total number of attachments you can send with one email and also applies to the cumulative size, in MB, of the attachments sent with one email. As a Yahoo! Merchant Solutions customer, you can include up to 10 attachments per email, for a maximum message size of 20MB.

Export to UPS WorldShip®

UPS WorldShip enables merchants to batch process shipments directly from their PC. The Yahoo! Merchant Solutions integration with UPS WorldShip gives merchants the ability to export their online orders as a WorldShip specific .csv file, save that file on their computer, and then import the data directly into UPS WorldShip. Once set up, no manual data entry is required. (Available for Merchant Standard and Professional only)

GotMarketing is a partner that lets you create, personalize, send, and measure direct email marketing campaigns using its Campaigner service. You can create email campaigns using HTML template wizards or from scratch using your own HTML. You can launch campaigns whenever you want (scheduling opportunities are available every 15 minutes, around the clock). Campaigner also has comprehensive automated list management tools and the ability to personalize your communications for better results. You also get real-time reports with detailed feedback about your campaign.

Yahoo! Merchant Solutions gives you the flexibility to build your ecommerce web site using your favorite HTML tools. You can use tools that come with the service, such as Yahoo! Inventory alerts

Inventory alerts are a feature that can be set to notify you automatically when your inventory falls below a specified level so you know that it's time to reorder. These alerts give you an easy way to manage your inventory levels and determine which products will be available for customers to purchase.

Inventory by options

Inventory by options allows you to view your inventory levels at a very detailed level, looking at the total number of a particular item you have in stock, as well as the number of that item in a particular color or style. For example, a T-shirt seller could find out how many pima cotton T-shirts it has in stock, and then find out how many are available in Men's XL Navy Blue.

Mailing list creation

When customers make purchases at your online store, they have the option to enter an email address where they'll receive correspondence related to their order and special offers from your company. Yahoo! Merchant Solutions provides several tools in Merchant Standard and Merchant Professional that automate key merchandising functions like cross selling, and gift certificates.

Merchant account

Merchant account processing services are provided by a bank or a third party processor (on behalf of a bank) and give the merchant the ability to authorize credit cards transactions and settle funds through bank associations (MasterCard/Visa). Please note that you must have a merchant account in place to open your online store for business.

Yahoo! Merchant Solutions has partnered with Paymentech to make it easy to apply for your merchant account online. If you already have a merchant account or would like to choose a different merchant account provider, you are welcome to use any bank that is compatible with First Data Merchant Services' Nashville platform (formerly known as Envoy).

Yahoo! Web Hosting's built-in Norton AntiVirus system automatically cleans infected email attachments to protect you from dangerous computer viruses. The system works with both the web interface and POP mail clients. For the web mail interface, automatic scanning and cleaning occurs every time an email-ingoing or outgoing-contains an attachment. For POP, only incoming mail is scanned and cleaned.

Password protected user accounts

Password protection allows you to control who can view your site or access various pages within it. For instance, you may want to create a special area that only employees or certain customers can access. You can place all of the content for these pages in a password-protected folder, and give the password only to the people you want to view that content. You could also set up subdomains, such as employees.mydomain.com, that can only be accessed by entering a password you establish.

PayPal is an online payment processing service that allows you to accept credit, debit, or bank transfer payments online. You can sign up for a PayPal account in three easy steps and get approved in less than 24 hours. You are charged a transaction fee for all orders processed by PayPal.

Paymentech

Paymentech is a Yahoo! Merchant Solutions partner and the premier electronic payment solutions provider in North America. It processes payments for merchants in both brick-and-mortar and online storefronts throughout the U.S. and Canada, with more than $123 billion in transactions annually (2002). More than half of all Internet retailers and service providers rely on Paymentech to handle their payments. Once you've signed up with Yahoo! Merchant Solutions, you can apply for a Paymentech Merchant account. It takes 1-3 business days to process your application, and if your application is accepted, that's all you have to do. Your new merchant account is automatically connected to your site, and you'll be ready to process orders online.

Paymentech offers great prices for online processing. There is no set-up fee, and only a monthly service fee of $22.95. The discount percentage for MasterCard/Visa is 2.69% plus a $0.20 transaction fee. You may also accept Discover and American Express (see Paymentech's terms for details/rates). The minimum term for a merchant contract is 6 months.

If you already have a merchant account or would like to choose a different merchant account provider, you are welcome to use any bank that is compatible with First Data Merchant Services' Nashville platform (formerly known as Envoy).

POP and SMTP mail access

You can send and receive your Yahoo! Business Mail from your favorite email program (such as Outlook or Eudora) via POP and SMTP. SMTP, or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, is a protocol for sending email messages between servers over the Internet. This report groups together transactions on your site that were likely placed by the same customer (based on the customer name and/or credit card number used). SpamGuard Plus

Statistics

Yahoo! Merchant Solutions makes it easy to keep tabs on your sales and traffic, so you can refine your operations and continue to improve. Available statistics include: Store sales reports and graphs showing the number of items sold, orders, revenue, inventory levels and more. Page view reports show what pages people visit on your site and how much they purchased from those pages. Referring URL reports show how people get to your site and the sales that are attributable to each referring site. Repeat customer detector groups together orders that appear to have been placed by the same customer. Merchant Standard and Merchant Professional customers also receive click trail reports that show customers' paths through their sites and search-related statistics.

These customized emails are sent out automatically to your customers to give them updates on the status of their orders, as the order is processed and shipped. When customers receive these emails they feel informed and may be less likely to contact you with questions about the status of their order, which in turn saves you a great deal of time.

The Store Editor is a free, easy-to-use store-building tool appropriate for those with limited experience creating web pages or for those who want to get a small store up-and-running quickly. With the Store Editor, site building is as easy as clicking through a web page, filling out online forms, and choosing from pre-defined looks for your site. Also, if you are familiar with HTML, you can learn to create customized templates in the Store Editor using RTML.

Store Tags

Store Tags are special pieces of HTML code that you can insert into your page designs, which will dynamically access your Catalog Manager data and display it on your web site. Any time you change the details for an item in your Catalog Manager, the information will be updated automatically wherever Store Tags are used to display the product on the pages of your site. Once you've signed up for a Yahoo! Merchant Solutions account, you'll be able to access the Store Tag Hub, which includes detailed instructions on using Store Tags, access to all of your Store Tag codes, and product merchandising page layouts that you can use for your own site.

Subdomain

A subdomain is also known as a "third-level" domain and is a great way to create memorable web addresses for various areas of your site. It also allows you to segment one large web site into smaller sections. For instance, Yahoo! uses subdomains for its services, such as mail.yahoo.com and music.yahoo.com.

Yahoo! Merchant Solutions allows you to build your ecommerce web site using your favorite HTML tools, including Microsoft FrontPage or Macromedia Dreamweaver. These tools are called third-party tools because they are created by companies other than Yahoo!, must be purchased separately, and are supported by their respective manufacturers, rather than Yahoo!. If you're used to working with any of these tools you may prefer the convenience of building your online store with them.

Trackable links (for affiliate programs)

An affiliate program is a formal, trackable relationship between you and another web business, under which you agree to reward that business for successfully referring traffic to your web site. With Yahoo! Merchant Solutions, you can track the performance of affiliate relationships that you establish. You and your partner can monitor, via online reports, the total monthly sales revenue generated through referrals from the affiliate partner, and use this information to calculate referral fees. Yahoo! has also formed a partnership with Commission Junction to help Merchants who would like to establish affiliate programs with a network of sites or who want to outsource the tracking and payment of referral fees. Transaction fee

Transaction fees are applied to each transaction processed through your online store and are assessed differently depending on which Yahoo! Merchant Solutions package you own. These fees help support the cost of hosting your storefront, using our platform, and conducting transactions on the Yahoo! Merchant Solutions infrastructure. The transaction fees for each plan are as follows:
Starter: 1.5% /transaction
Standard: 1.0%/transaction
Professional: 0.75%/transaction

You'll pay a fixed cost-per-click charge, based on the category of the product listed, and will manage your listing with an easy to-use online system.

Yahoo! Merchant Solutions customers benefit from several special advantages that are not available to other vendors: To begin with, you are eligible for 20% off the Product Submit rate card across all categories! You will also be listed as a Certified Merchant*, a qualification that lends to the reputation and status of your store, and will be included in the Yahoo! Shopping Buyer Protection Program, which reassures consumers of privacy concerns. Additionally, you will receive preferential listing within the text listings of the Buyer's Guides and you even have the option to include an Express Checkout icon, which helps streamline a user's experience with your site.
