An email management company revealed that 3 out of every 4 mobile devices activated by the small and medium business it tracks were iPhones or iPads, AppleInsider reports. In its 2013 edition of its mobile trends report, Intermedia said that 190,000 iOS devices were activated from January to October, or 76% of the total of almost a quarter million activations it counted. Samsung came in second place with 12% of total activations, which amounted to nearly 30,000 mobile devices, while Motorola took third place with 13,800 mobile device activations. Both Microsoft and BlackBerry activations were unimpressive, getting a cumulative 2% share. Beyoncé blew Instagram's new product announcement out of the water in the middle of the night when she used the platform to announce a surprise new album that not a damn soul expected. Here's the video, which Betabeat caught in a half-asleep stupor around 12:30 a.m. We assumed it was some kind of fever dream, as the news was clearly too good to be true: It's available exclusively on iTunes, which is pushing the self-titled-in-all-caps album with all its might on its home page. Bearing a brand new music video for each of its 14 tracks as well as four bonus vids, it'll run you a cool $15.99. Android may claim more of the U.S. smartphone market share, but Apple's iPhones have been dominating in individual phone sales during Q4 2013. New data shows that the iPhone 5s has been the top seller across four major U.S. carriers from September through November. The analysis comes from Canaccord Genuity's T. Michael Walkley, who says that the iPhone 5s has been the most popular smartphone at AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile in the past three months, AllThingsD reports. MORE:Top iPhone 5s Accessory Gifts In August, the month preceding Apple's iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c announcement, the iPhone 5 claimed the top spot at AT&T.Samsung's Galaxy S4 was the most-purchased smartphone across Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile during that month, however. Both the iPhone 5c and Samsung Galaxy S4 are runner ups to the 5s across carriers, with the two phones fluctuating between second and third place. Walkley's assessment comes on the heels of a report from Counterpoint that crowned the iPhone 5s as the most popular smartphone worldwide. The iPhone 5 placed in second with the Samsung Galaxy S4 trailing in third. This is due in part to Apple's larger presence in China, where its market share grew from just three percent in September to 12 percent in October. As 2013 draws to a close, Walkley sees Apple's success pushing into 2014 as well. The analyst has raised his estimates from 52 million iPhone shipments to 54 million for Q1 2014. via AllThingsD Apple MacBook Air (11-inch) vs. Microsoft Surface Pro 2: Face-Off Apple iPad Buying Guide: Which One is Right for You? NASA has bold plans to lasso an asteroid and land astronauts on it — and it's already testing the suits they'd be wearing on the mission. At its Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory in Houston, the agency has been experimenting with a modified version of its iconic orange Advanced Crew Escape System (ACES) suit that would be suitable for the asteroid excursion. The big, bulky Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) suits worn by astronauts on the International Space Station are simply too large for the limited space inside the Orion spacecraft that the mission would be using, so the team is trying to make the ACES suit better suited for deep space exploration, which includes making it more mobile. In the video below, you can see the modified suit being tested in an underwater environment. More »NASA testing lighter, more mobile spacesuits for asteroid-wrangling mission

A group tasked with proposing NSA reforms will reportedly recommend limiting the agency's bulk phone-record collection program, splitting off US Cyber Command, and installing civilian leadership, sources have told The Wall Street Journal. The panel, formed earlier this year, isn't due to present a report to the White House until December 15th, but according to people who have reviewed the documents, it's taking aim at one of the most high-profile issues: the mass collection of phone metadata allowed under the FISA Amendments Act and Patriot Act. Under the suggested rules, the NSA would have to meet a higher burden of proof before collecting records — instead of being held in a government database, they would stay in the hands of the phone companies or other third parties. That doesn't necessarily mean the NSA will be querying less data, since it can simply ask phone companies to provide information about the numbers.
