Page A – or – Page B?
Google says that page load times matter for SEO! This isn’t new news but it has recently been very clearly stated that Google will give preferential treatment to fast loading sites.
In basic squeeze pages, an improvement in loading time can result of a 5+% conversion increase!
As with malware prevention, a lot of site loading issues have their start in hosting performance!
Whether you wish to compare the same page on two webhosts or simply be nosey about how your blog is loading compared to a colleagues blog, a neat site to check out is…
This little site is dead simple to use.
You plug in a URL in the left and a URL on the right and hit go and BOOM, instant results.
However, you need to know that for true assessment, both caching, and load variation need to be accounted for. To accomplish that, run the test, allow it to report, run the test again, allow it to report, at least 4 or 5 times.
The tester will then give you an “Average over X runs” number that is much more accurate than any single run.
For a true comparison, I’d also test in the dead of night and at high peak traffic times during the day to really scope out if your server is handling the load well.
That’s all there is to this little web app.
You’ll find this one a lot of fun to play with!
Which Loads Faster? – Compare The Loading Time Of Two Pages Or Websites
I offer up a screenshot of Ana’s blog (hopefully she won’t kill me!) as evidence however that loading is only a portion of the SEO Traffic game.
Because even though my blog page is loading faster than hers, her site is pulling more traffic than mine is at this time. Always remember that SEO is a multi-factorial game.
And if you don’t already know Ana, be sure you drop the awesome Traffic Generation Cafe and say hi!
