LinkedIn Has More Than 50M Users In Asia Pacific Region, 24M Users From India
World’s largest professional network, LinkedIn which has over 277 million members globally, has stated that it has crossed the 50 million users milestone in the Asia Pacific region, of which 24 million users are from India.
Giving more details on the user distribution, LinkedIn informed that nine countries in the region now have over one million members, while Australia has more than 5 million users, China (4 million), Indonesia and the Philippines (2+ million each), Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and New Zealand (1+ million each).
Talking about the growth, Hari Krishnan, Managing Director, Asia Pacific & Japan at LinkedIn, considers it to be remarkable as the member base has nearly tripled in a span of less than three years. “Last year, we welcomed 7+ million new members in India, while 2+ million new members joined our network in Australia and New Zealand. In Southeast Asia, our member base jumped more than 50% to reach 9+ million.”
The latest news comes close on the heels of its fourth-quarter financial performance where by LinkedIn reported a revenue of $447.2 million and non-GAAP earnings per share of $0.39. LinkedIn termed the results to be ‘solid’.
Asia has been a keen focus for the network like all other social networking giants. China, where the network boasts of 4 million members without having an official presence, has seen some recent developments. Seeing the user growth, LinkedIn recently appointed Derek Shen, the founder and former CEO of Chinese Groupon-like group-buying site Nuomi, as the president of LinkedIn China. At the same time Derek also became the VP at LinkedIn.
LinkedIn also integrated with the country’s most popular messaging app WeChat while it rolled out its latest 5.2 version for the domestic market. With WeChat’s 5.2 version, when a user taps on the LinkedIn tab on someone’s profile page, they’ll be redirected to the LinkedIn mobile app, where they can then view complete resumes.
Some of the other noteworthy features that the company has introduced for the region are the availability six Asian languages in addition to English and the ongoing addition of Asia based influencers such as Tony Fernandes (Group CEO, AirAsia), David Thodey (CEO & Executive Director, Telstra), Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (Chairman & Managing Director, Biocon), to name a few.
