Social media isn’t always fun for a social media executive working for a brand or an agency. Social media bloopers are bound to happen when you are trying to balance your professional social media stream with your personal one. And especially when you are trying to do it on fast paced social network like Twitter for a brand like Star Sports India which has more than 141K followers.
This evening when the Twitter community was settling with ISRO’s successful Mangalyaan launch, Star Sports India, on the other hand, which had been tweeting about its regular tweets on Indian and global sports, tweeted this:
Star Sports India Twitter blooper
The abusive tweet was quickly deleted but not before it received 104 retweets, 25 favorites and many screenshots. Right now the brand is back again to its tweeting spree as if nothing had happened. However, the Twitter crowd has got a nice new topic to have a laugh over the evening while I’m waiting for the brand to state in the near future that its Twitter account had been hacked.
This isn’t the first time that we are witnessing such social media bloopers on Twitter. Last year we saw Suresh Raina’s not at all funny tweet about the loss of Pakistan during the T20 World Cup in Colombo doing the talking. The cricketer later tweeted that it was the next day he realized that smartphones could be dangerous after his nephew posted some random tweets from his Twitter account. We believed it and the sportsmanship of the cricketer.
Blunders like this are bound to happen when you are managing a social media account for a brand while balancing your personal social space too. It is always better to access both the streams from different devices; the likelihood of such social media bloopers would be reduced. However, the damage has been done and someone might go home with a sad face, sadly.
