Kissing is one of the ways we have of assessing potential mates, but in every relationship you only get one first kiss. The future depends quite a lot on how successful that kiss as 59% of men and a huge 69% of women say they lose interest if it doesn’t live up to their expectations.
So what makes the perfect kiss? It’s impossible to have a step-by-step guide, as men and women have their own likes and dislikes, but there are several things you can do to. Look and smell kissable – no-one wants to get up close to someone who hasn’t seen the inside of a shower for a month. Slowly lean your face closer, as moving in communicates that you’re ready for more contact. Find the right time to kiss, preferably when you are alone and looking at each other. Place your hands around your partner’s neck or waist, the back of their head, or if you want to be extra-romantic, against their cheeks.
Your mouth should not be overly opened or closed, and it shouldn’t be mushy or too dry. Don’t let it go on too long as this might make it seem you are coming on too strong. However, too short and you will appear nervous and scared ( which you probably are !) Around 10 seconds is an acceptable lenth of time, but don’t count the time on your fingers ! A tiny hint of tongue is nice, but make it flirtatious and not insistent. When it comes to tongue a little can go a long way!
Don’t be afraid to laugh or make a little joke to ease the tension or hide some of your nervousness as your partner probably feels the same way. If your first kiss is successful it will hopefully help you build up a lasting relationship with that special someone.
