We like BMW, they make some pretty epic rides. And we like BMW even more when they jazz up said rides with the 13th letter in the alphabet — M, that is. With the likelihood of an M2, the brand will have covered M1 to M6 through the years…but what about 7 and 8? Actually, they may not be too far off, according to new reports.
Sitting down with BMW M development chief Albert Biermann, Autocar found out that engineers are gung-ho at the idea of an M7. Of course, a car of this magnitude would compete with the likes of the Audi S8, Jaguar XJR, and Mercedes S63 AMG, to name a few. If this idea does reach production though, question is, what would power this Bavarian beast?
After 7 — of course — comes 8. And BMW M execs are still eager to transform the all-new i8 into a high-revving, lightweight supercar, according to Autobild. You may remember, this isn’t the first time that BMW and its M division have been at differences regarding this idea (more here).
Earlier reports told us that the M8 would be hitting the lineup in 2016. Power would come in the form of a twin-turbocharged V8 and output would be close to 700 horsepower. Since then, the speculation has been mostly diminished by BMW execs, although recent rumblings have suggested otherwise.
So as it sits, both of these new M vehicles are nothing more than possibilities. Whether BMW will give M execs the green light for either of these projects has yet to be determined. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we hear more information.
