Question
Is this a good business idea?
Basically, cook cheap healthy food for college kids and deliver it to them.
So firstly, create a website where they make the order. One meal cost $1. And they can order for a whole month.
And me and some other people rent a commercial kitchen, cook and serve the college kids. And go to the university on a truck or something during lunch time and the students can come get their food. Its most likely be in those foam boxes like these: www.unipak.co.nz/ic/4189211347/_T2P...
Would this work? If not, care to explain?

For $1 per meal/ no way...the cost of the meal itself is likely to be $2 - $4 then you have to rent the kitchen, pay for the truck, pay yourselves, etc.
Start by planning out a menu, then pricing the ingredients per serving size. Next, call around and get a rental cost for a commercial kitchen (r you rent a space and buy the kitchen equipment), and then figure out your costs for the truck. My guess is that you will need to price your meals somewhere around $5 - $7 just to break even selling a few thousand meals per month.

Sounds like a great idea to me!

Steve D. explained it quite well. A bowl of spaghetti is going to cost you a buck to make. Heck, Chef Boyardee beefaroni costs $1.79 at Walgreens, which is retail. You don't start with a target price and then scramble to find a way to meet it, you start with your meal, figure the costs including overhead, add profit and that is your price, like it or not. You'll just be another vendor competing with pizza and McDonalds.
