How do I get lower shipping rates?

I can only manage to get shipping rates for $9 for 0-5 pounds at ups while other websites can get way cheaper for ups. How do I get lower shipping rates? Thanks for the answer (:

In my experience you need to have more customers. You get the best rates when you move the most products. Generally they will limit discounts until you have a substantial amount of clients. Also, you can often renegotiate by looking into other options and possibly discussing moving your business to another carrier.
