Question

How can I get my t-shirt design patented?

So I have really cool designs. I think they would make great t-shirts and could be especially popular amongst teenagers. I want to know how I could get my designs patented and maybe partner up with someone to sell them? I don't want to start my own clothing line or anything like that (but fashion designing has always been in the back of my mind). It would just be like a cool side job. Can anyone help?
Or copyrighted...I think that's the correct term

After you get them copyrighted, you can also sell them through www.cafepress.com and www.zazzle.com.

You don't get it patented, you copyright it.

Your work is copyrighted the moment you finish it, and there's no real need to do anything more. Be aware that copyright only gives you the right to sue. There's nothing to prevent people using your images - it doesn't make them impossible physically to duplicat (obviously) and there are no copyright police out there. It just gives you the right to sue, that's all.

You already own your copyright (free and automatic) on your drafts and any final versions of your works from the moment you created them. 17 USC § 201. That's the law in over 160 countries. You can optionally place your copyright notice on them. In the USA (and a few other countries) you can optionally register your ownership in the Copyright Office. In the USA this gives you two important advantages (among others): it allows you to sue in US federal court (17 USC § 511) and it allows you to ask for up to $150,000 in statutory damages, even if you never made a dime on it and can't prove the infringers did either. 17 USC § 504.
