What do I need to start performing smog services at a smog check station?

I'm a college student and I want to work at a smog station. I want to know if I need any type of certification that allows me to perform smog checks. And for future references, would an ASE certification benefit someone that works at a smog only station?

You need to get licensed by the Smog board (they give you a certificate so you can officially do smog checks, and you need to enter your ID every time you do one into the computer).

Presumably, you need to go to a special school and take a test to get that.
