Is store brand detergent as good as name brand?

I'm a college student and was wondering if store brand laundry detergent is as effective as name brand detergent. I am trying to save money and was wondering if that was a good way to do it. Also is there anything else I can buy store brand with the same quality

Brand detergents are able to sell at a higher price because they have been on the market far longer or have gained popularity faster. There will be slight differences, such as amounts of chemicals in them, like for example, brand cereal will have more wheat than store brand. It all adds up, but yes; store brand 9 out of 10 times is just as effective.
