Select a public company, that is one that is found traded on a stock exchange. They will have to file reports with the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC). The company will have to file quarterly reports that will have to tell report readers about each and every aspect of their business and they will have to break it down to location. It was said that if Enron employees had bothered to read the SEC reports, they would have been out of Enron stock fast. But, nobody bothers because it is just a little bit of time and trouble, and they think it is like an annual report. They are not the same. Lie to the SEC, and you go to jail. Lie to investors, and you get rich.

SEC reports are available through Yahoo Financial in the Edgar Database. I will give you a link below. You will need to stock symbol of the company. Sears is SHLD -- JC Penny is JCP. Go to JCP and look at the column on the left. Under company you see SEC filing. Click on that and look for a 10K. Pick a recent year or quarter and read the result. Private companies do not have to tell you anything. Public ones have to tell you everything.
