Why companies need my bank address as well as details?

When transferring money in the family, it's pretty easy online when you know your family member’s bank details but when my University wanted to take some deposit off me for the University halls, and now to pay it back they need to know my bank's address. Why not just my bank details, why do they need my bank’s address? I have probably visited that bank once for myself.

It's just another piece of information.

Let's say you transposed a number. They can call that bank branch to verify some information.

For example, Bank of America has three different routing numbers (paper, wires, electronic)
