Question
I am an adult woman whom has decided to start a local cleaning business.?
How much if anything will it cost me to register the business name?
How much to get licensed/bonded? I live in WI.
Also.. one neighboring cleaning lady told me it cost her $400.00 a month to be insured. To me that is way too much.. especially when you first start out. How would I /do I get a better rate? She did not want to share with me much.
Thanks

The other answer is correct about registering a fictitious name, though I would wait a bit since many municipalities will began taxing you for equipment, etc. A DBA is necessary once you decide to open a business bank account.
Liability insurance varies a lot from one insurance agency to another. Call many and get a quote for the lowest amount possible. It is important because it will protect you from claims (mostly false) of damage or theft. Plus, potential customers are usually impressed you have it.

You'll need a business license from your local municipal government, it's usually around $50 a year, more or less, so not bad. Insurance is another animal. Home owners and businesses would want you to have personal injury and liability insurance. If you fall down on the job, a home owner would not want you to make a claim against his home owner's insurance, so a smart customer will require you to be insured and present proof of insurance.
Have you compared your service structure and costs to other similar offerings, the "Mini Maid" type of companies? They have a business structure already in place, and you can gain some insight about what makes them tick, and since they are you competitor, you can easily learn your competitive advantage from researching them online. Best of luck in your new endeavor.
