I would like to open a small business...?

However, I would need a grant to do so. Has anyone here ever applied for, received a grant to open a small business? If so, what was the process? Or, if you haven't personally done so, do you know anyone who has, or just have good information in general? Any (mature, logical) advice is greatly appreciated.

The Federal government does not have grants to open new businesses. Some states may have them but they are few and far between - check with your local Economic Development Agency to see what is available. If there is nothing available, you'll have to create a business plan and apply for a small business loan at one of your local banks (you'll probably need a 20% down payment - or more). look for a bank that deals with SBA-guaranteed loans since they tend to be easier to get due to the guarantee.
