Question

Modelling Agency, scam or not?

I was recently contacted by a modelling agency, they say they would like to schedule an interview with me this Saturday. I was searching up online to see what to wear, and I came across articles talking about scam agencies. What really threw me off was the articles read that most agencies try to scam you by charging you for classes and portfolios, based on this ad, would it be safe to go? Or am I just wasting my time

If agents are charging you to interview, then that is not normal. However, it is normal, once you have been signed by an agency, for them to want you to take classes or do extra things to help your modeling career which is part of the cost of being a model/actor.

Once you have been signed by an agency they want to be able to get you jobs because they do not get paid unless you get a job. So all of the extra things that they want you to do is to help you get jobs.

With that said, if they are asking for money upfront I would be a little weary.

By the way, I am speaking on my experience of having an agent for acting. I did not have to pay anything up front. Once I was signed the agency would find me auditions. The things that I was responsible for which were my major expenses were:

1. Headshots
2. Acting classes
3. transportation to auditions/jobs

Hope that helps and wish you the best.

Even if it is a scam, it's not a waste of your time to go. However, remember that legitimate agencies will never charge you a penny for anything. Ever.

Well, It looks like a scam to me. If its a scam if they say some thing like... Example: You pay to audition, or pay for a portfolio, or something like that.
