Can I have advertisers advertise on my website ?

I have a site that raises money through donations. It's not a non profit.

Some advertisers have approached me asking to add a banner on my site. Do I need to be a non profit entity to be able to receive money from ads that will also be donated to the cause ?

Yes. Maybe you should also specify that the money from ads goes to the cause :)
