by Mike C - 5 years agoAny late payment is reported as a negative on your Credit Report for seven years, even if the very next payment completely pays-off the debt. In that case, the late payment will show as being your most recent payment, even if it happened several years in the past. Therefore, don't make the mistake of following a late payment with a full pay-off (which includes the sale of a mortgaged home). To re-establish good credit, a late payment should be followed by a long and steady history of regular on-time payments, until the late payment is aged off the credit report.
by rxblair - 5 years agoAnything negative stays and stays on your report for years.
Seven to ten years--sorry
I think it is seven years. For non payment of taxes it is two years. If you pay the balance it will say paid in full if you settle the account (pay less that they accept to settle) it says settled on your report both of the latter is done, usually in 30-60 days. Most lenders only go back on your credit report for so far. Like currently my husband is applying for an FHA loan, they only look at the last two years of his credit history.
