What kind of things do you buy generic? Is there anything that MUST be brand name?

Most of the medicine that I buy are generic. The doctor prescribed something pills a few weeks ago which they don't have it generic and I have to pay $300.00 which I regret it.
I only buy fruit like grapes, bananas and a few things, but other than that every thing is generic.
