The Google Panda filter caused a big loss of traffic for article sites like eHow, you may be better off writing articles for blogs to order, might pay around $3 for a 500 word article.

I hear that article brokers like iwriter.com or TextBroker.com are less hassle than the freelance bidding sites, you may have to establish a quality reputation to get the best rates.

Freelance marketplaces like odesk.com, elance.com or freelancer.com have people looking for writers as well.

Being able to write quickly is very helpful, some who don't type so well use speech to text tools like Dragon Naturally Speaking to dictate the article, some hand editing of the final version is needed. I found my new Android tablet does decent speech transcription without training it, leave it to Google to get compact low power equipment to do a very challenging job.
