Question
How does Express Trade (Barter Kings) make money?
I'm talking about their business, Express Trade. How do they make money? I know they get paid by A&E, but they had a business before so do they trade up and sell? And if so, why are they advertising as a trade company? Why not just call their store a pawn shop, or a store or something?

Yes, they generally trade up and eventually sell items they don't keep for personal use or other trades. It differs from a pawn shop or a store because those entities operate entirely on cash transactions - you walk into a pawn shop with your item, and you hopefully walk out with cash, either from a sale or loan. Express Trade doesn't make loans and usually doesn't purchase items. Plus, the premise of the transaction is altered; the value of cash is not as subjective as two people appraising the relative value of two dissimilar items based on their personal needs/desires. I don't believe they're regulated the way the pawn business is regulated, either.
