Blog is short for Web Log. It is basically a web site where articles, stories, recipes, opinions, public diaries, and other similar pieces of literature are posted.

Most blogs of any stature are updated at least 2 or 3 times a week. Some are updated every day. Some are updated multiple times per day.

For income, bloggers basically have two choices. Advertising or Employment. Here is what I mean by this:
1) Advertising
--- If you write your own blog and host it yourself or have it hosted in an environment that allows advertising, you can potentially sell or rent ad space on your site. In order to make any significant amount of money using this method, you will need to have many, many visitors daily (or even hourly). Basically the more advertising exposure you can promise your clients, the more you can charge for ad space.
2) Employment
---- The easier and more realistic method a blogger can earn money would be to go to work for an organization or individual that already hosts a successful blog. Money would be made through normal salary payments.

If you can write well and know how to create hyperlinks, upload pictures, and upload videos to websites, you are probably equipped to be a blogger. Most successful bloggers are very creative, assertive, entertaining, etc.

Some popular blogs that you can look at for examples:

www.buzzfeed.com/
mashable.com/

There are countless half baked blogs out there that never attract a significant following and never make money. If one creates an exceptional site with quality original content, judged by the search engines to be worth showing you might get the tens of thousands of visitors a month it takes to earn much. One very rough rule of thumb I have seen used is an average earning of 1/2 cent per visitor.

Renting ad space or inserting affiliate links to specific estores are the 2 most common ways people earn money, the Google Adsense system is the most simple and popular advertising system you could host, though you mist expect to get tens of thousands of visitors before earning the $10 min payout.

I recommend you pick something you have a passion or strong interest in to improve the chances of sticking with it long enough to get a payoff, you could be writing more than 100 articles a year. Focusing on a particular specialty tends to make it easier to get search engine ranking, which brings you free visitors. Trying to talk about everything under the sun might leave you trapped in obscurity.

You can create a blog without doing any programming, it's more like filling out firms. There are pre-designed "themes" you can pick from, both free and paid. Some have a custom logo-header made for their site, but the default is a simple large type header. The couple of old school free blog platforms I am familiar with are Wordpress.com and Blogger.com
