It must be 1987, because Buick is going turbo-crazy.
The 2014 Buick Regal will get a major upgrade in the form of a new standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
The new engine is taken from the Cadillac ATS, and produces 259 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. That's more than the 2.0-liter turbo in the BMW 320i (180 hp, 184 lb-ft) or the naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter V-6 in the Lexus IS 250 (204 hp, 185 lb-ft).
Equipped with the six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, the 2014 Regal is EPA-rated at 24mpg combined (21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway); the six-speed manual gets an extra mile per gallon highway. All-wheel drive models are rated at 22 mpg combined (19 mpg city, 27 mpg highway).
In addition to the new turbo engine, a Regal eAssist mild hybrid model will still be available. The eAssist powertrain consists of a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor, producing a total of 182 hp and 172 lb-ft. It's rated at 29 mpg combined (25 mpg city, 36 mpg highway).
The 2014 Buick Regal also features refreshed styling, including 18-inch alloy wheels. The changes are subtle, but the 2013 Regal was already a decent-looking car.

The 2014 Buick Regal is on sale now, with a base price of $30,615--including destination--for front-wheel drive models, and $32,790 for all-wheel drive models. The sportier Regal GS starts at $37,830 for front-wheel drive, and $40,195 for all-wheel drive. The Regal eAssist has a base price of $32,485.
This year marks the 40th birthday of the Regal; over those four decades, it's rarely been an interesting car. Maybe the new engine will change that.
